The Canoe Award (the new version of 3* Canoe) is aimed at developing the fundamental skills and techniques of open boating. Whether heading out on open water or paddling down some of our beautiful rivers, the Canoe Award will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to head out in your canoe with confidence and understanding of the environment so that you will thoroughly enjoy your paddling!
The Canoe Award is aimed towards paddlers who want to confirm their own personal paddling level and/or those who wish to contribute more in a group or club environment.
We will help you to develop your skills, decision making and judgment both on and off the water. You will become more confident in planning and paddling canoe journeys. The scope of the Canoe Award covers rivers with Grade 1 moving water (with simple eddies) and open water with winds up to Force 3 on the Beaufort scale.
We focus on your skill level and efficient paddle techniques to bring out the best in you so you can canoe with confidence in different environments. We aim to give you the skills to improve your solo canoeing, and guidance on tandem trim.
Pre-requisites for the Canoe Award:
It is recommended that you have completed British Canoeing’s “Discover Paddle Award” (the new version of the 2*) or be able to paddle at a similar level.
