When you’re out on the water, accidents can happen and it’s all ways best to be prepared and have the knowledge and skills to help yourself of help others if required.
The foundation safety and rescue training course (FSRT) is designed for all paddlers coaches and volunteers working in and around the water. This course can be completed as bank-based or boat-based.
The course will teach simple and safe skills as a foundation to your paddle and any other safety training courses within British canoeing.
On the completion of this course, you will have the skill set to ensure your safety and the safety of others, as well as rescue skills to help yourself and others in difficulty.
Pre-requisites for the Foundation Safety and Rescue Training Course (FSRT):
To participate on this FSRT course you must:
- Be able to swim in normal paddling clothes
- Hold British Canoeing Discovery award (in old money 2star) or have equivalent ability, except for bank-based participants
- As licensed by Adventure Activity License Authority (AALA) provider we can deliver this course to under 18’s as there is no age restriction on the FSRT course
Prerequisites:
- Discovery award (old money 2 star)
- Be able to swim 50metres in normal paddling clothes
Equipment to bring:
- Paddling clothing for the weather conditions
- Craft of your choosing but must be suitable for the course
Recommended equipment to bring but not essential:
- Towline or tow system
- Tape/sling with no loop and large karabiner
- Whistle
- Throwline
- Knife
- If you don’t own any of the kit listed, please do not rush out and buy as the FSRT is a great course to try before you buy.
